Job Description:

Title: Buildings and Grounds Associate

Hours/Days: Part time 25-29 hours per week-hours and shifts may vary

Reports To: Facilities Manager

Primary Function: To patrol museum property, monitor for trespassers, fire and hazardous situations; to assist with the general maintenance and upkeep of the museum buildings and grounds, as well as, site preservation and assisting guests as needed. Job duties will vary based on shift worked.

Job Duties
* Perform designated rounds
* To accompany inspectors and contractors while on site
* To greet busses and tour groups to assure a smooth welcome to the museum
* Lock museum buildings after closing
* Monitor all used fireplaces and wood stoves
* Monitor HVAC, coolers, freezers and kitchens
* Monitor alarms - communicate with monitoring companies and manager as required
* Assist housekeeping and grounds staff as necessary
* Trash and litter collection
* Carry two-way radio and cell phone on person as required
* Take outgoing mail to the post office and pick up incoming mail
* Take deposits to night depository at bank
* Pick up change at bank as needed
* Lawn mowing and trimming, leaf collection and snow removal
* Splitting and delivering firewood
* Light repairs including carpentry, plumbing and electrical
* Routine inspection of steps, ramps and walkways and paths for safety
* Maintain all interior and exterior lighting
* Monthly inspections of bulk fuel oil tanks
* Assist with the logistics of special events and rentals setups
* Trash and litter collection
* Other tasks as assigned
* Report safety hazards to Facilities Manager
* Change light bulbs
* Maintain cleanliness of security vehicle
* Direct visitors with parking
* Assist visitors in emergencies
* Other tasks as assigned

Experience and Skills:

Physical requirements include:
* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
* Able to climb and work safely from ladders
* Ability to do heavy lifting such as moving tables and furniture, pick up and empty trash receptacles, shoveling snow
* Stand and walk for long periods of time
* Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

Standards
* Work efficiently, courteously and professionally with a wide range of staff and volunteers
* Communicate in a friendly and hospitable manner at all times
* Represent the museum in a professional way including appearance
* Be sensitive to the cultural differences as represented by the museum’s collections, educational mission and audience.

Qualifications
* Valid NYS driver’s license
* First Aid and CPR training are a plus
